The Capuchin friars of the Province of St. Mary have brought a Gospel witness in word and deed to the people of New York, New England, and beyond since 1857. While grounded in direct ministry to the poor, the friars have also dedicated themselves to speaking in simple, direct, and vivid words that help to bring the Gospel alive for people living amid the hectic pace and complex world of the 21st century. The goal of our Capuchin preaching is to present a positive, simple, accurate, and convincing explanation of the personal relationship that God would like to have with every person. |
Characteristics of this relationship, in the Franciscan Tradition, are friendship rather than domination; mercy rather than revenge; hope rather than discouragement; and helpfulness rather than frustration. Jesus, who is God in the flesh, says, “I call you friends” (John 15:15). Our friars are available to preach retreats, parish missions, and days of recollection. |
