by Br. Anthony Zuba
For those of you who don’t know me, I am Br. Anthony Zuba, and for the last 10 years I have been a part of the editorial team at The Capuchin Journey. I have co-edited the magazine with a number of our dedicated lay personnel in the development office. Before I joined the Order in 2011, I worked in journalism as a copy editor for financial trade publications in Manhattan and for weekly newspapers in Queens. Fun fact: in 1990, when I was in seventh grade, I was a contestant in the National Spelling Bee! People always told me I had a way with words.
One of the great things about being a Capuchin friar is that none of your talents will go to waste. You bring all your gifts with you into the Order. Early on in my life as a friar I was encouraged to contribute my editorial skills to our magazine. I started helping out part-time with magazine production while I was working in midtown Manhattan at our parish of Holy Cross-St. John the Baptist. (At that time, our development office was on Seventh Avenue, around the corner from St. John the Baptist.) I continued to write articles, edit copy, and oversee graphic design after I moved from New York City to Boston. (The wonder of telecommunications!)
Two years ago, I was reassigned from Capuchin Mobile Ministries in Boston to work full time in the development office. Now, I am the director of communications for the Province. In addition to publishing this magazine, I oversee our social media, coordinate our direct mail program, procure grants for our provincial ministries, and assist at our fundraising events. Like I said, when you become a Capuchin, all your gifts and talents are put to use!
We want to put your gifts and talents to use, too, in fidelity to the Gospel of Christ, for the good of the Church, and for the benefit of the whole human family. We want to be good stewards of your generosity. As regards our development office, we value your feedback about the magazine and our social media. Please take a few minutes to send us your thoughts and suggestions.
It is my honor to share with you the good news about our life and ministry, and in so doing help to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world. All our friars remain ever grateful for your steadfast and unstinting generosity.
